The concept of TVs was the work of numerous individuals in the 19th and the beginning of 20th century centuries. Over the years, the technology of TVs evolved with the main aim of enhancing the customer experience. Compared to people in the past, individuals nowadays expect a more fully-immersive experience; one that improves what they are seeing on screen and envelopes them in its narrative. Fortunately for modern consumers, the recent years has seen many new and exciting TV technologies enter the fray. One such technology is HDMI 2.1. This new technology allows for both 8K 60Hz and 4K 120HZ content that bring a big boost to either resolution or responsiveness (Clarke et al., 20). In particular, it supports a variety of high resolutions and refresher rates that are faster. These features allow for viewing that is immersive and smooth action detail. The technology has resolutions of up to 10k that can support commercial AV, and specialty and industrial usages. Notably, the High Definition Multimedia Interface also offers high definition video through a tiny cable and eliminates the need for those huge SCART connectors that utilized to trail behind televisions.
Other specific features of the HDMI 2.1 are:
• A dynamic HDR (High Dynamic Range) support that makes sure that each moment of a video is shown at its perfect value for detail, depth, contrast, brightness and broader color gamuts-on a frame-by-frame or even a scene-by-scene basis. For instance, the HDR enables a wider variety of colors in contents like games and movies. It also gives a TV additional information regarding what to do with the signal that it is getting. Instead of reading a sole set of instructions for the whole film, dynamic metadata provides the television with continuous updates regarding how to tweak the image on-screen to make it look its best (Docter 73).
• An Ultra High Speed HDMI cable that bolsters the 48G bandwidth for uncompressed HDMI 2.1 quality support. It is also important to note that the cable has an EMI emission that is very low and is backwards compatible with previous versions of the HDMI Specification and can be utilized with HDMI gadgets that are already present.
• Auto Low latency Mode (ALLM)-a majority of TVs now encompass many types of extra processing to smooth out motion, enhance the quality of pictures, and even enhance the clarity of audio. Whereas some of this is appreciated when watching TV and films, for gamers, it leads to the introduction of latency (lag) (Docter 74). The Game mode purpose is to switch to this when fastest possible response times from the TV are wanted; however, the main problem is many televisions require the Game mode to be turned on and off manually-ALLM eliminates the need to do this. A TV with HDMI 2.1 comprehends that a person is utilizing a supported console, and as such, ALLM will disable any additional processing that may introduce lag.
• Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC)-this makes it possible for a person to send audio over to the soundbar or surround receiver without an extra optical audio cable. Whether one is watching Netflix, watching Blu-ray, or playing a game on a console, ARC makes sure that the audio is delivered to the correct output (Clarke 21).
From the above described features of HDMI 2.1, it is evident that this technology is going to improve the overall customer experience in a great way.
